Advocacy Groups

Association for Women Faculty (AWF)

The goal of the Association for Women Faculty at the University of Arizona is to achieve a campus climate which fosters the careers of women faculty and academic professionals by 1) lobbying the state legislature, Board of Regents, University administration and the Commission on the Status of Women, a presidentially-appointed group, for the rights of women on campus; these rights include equal pay, equal opportunity, and just treatment and 2) fostering an interdisciplinary community among women by promoting discussions and interactions on topics that impact women faculty and academic professionals.

Commission on the Status of Women

The Commission on the Status of Women strengthens the University of Arizona by advocating an inclusive and just campus community. We do so by working to overcome impediments to the full participation and achievement of women and other underrepresented groups. We develop and propose solutions to problems and promote the values of fairness and diversity, in the hope of achieving a just community that respects and supports the professional and personal aspirations of all of its members.

Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure

The Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure (CAFT) shall have jurisdiction to make inquiry in two general areas: 1) matters involving contractual agreements between members of the General Faculty and the University/Board of Regents; and 2) internal matters relating to grievances against or by any member of the General Faculty. Protection of academic freedom and tenure is a principal obligation of CAFT. Tenured or continuing members of the General Faculty other than deans of any rank may run for CAFT.

Ombudsperson Committee

The ombudsperson program was established to create a climate on the University campus which provides employees and students with an option other than formal grievance procedures to resolve disputes. The ombudsperson program is implemented by an Ombudsperson Committee comprised of representatives from all segments of the University community.

OUTReach

OUTReach's mission is to serve Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered (LGBT) faculty, staff and students by providing intellectual, social, and cultural support systems within the University of Arizona and Tucson communities. OUTReach acts as a "coordinating", inclusive body for the multiple LGBT groups on campus as well as providing a limited number of programs and services.

Presidents Council on Diversity

The President's Council on Diversity seeks to understand, confront, and eliminate institutional barriers to an equitable and diverse educational and work environment at the University of Arizona. These barriers are the result of historical and institutional injustice.

The Council recommends action that will create systemic change through deliberate attention to inclusiveness, justice, and safety across all areas of the University. Finally, we challenge all members of the University community to continually evolve to meet the needs of a diverse campus.
