Retirement Eligibility

Employees who are employed at .50 FTE (20 hours per week) or more for a period of twenty (20) weeks or longer are required to participate and contribute to an eligible retirement program.

Retirement Programs

Classified Staff employees who are employed at a .50 FTE (20 hours per week) for a period of twenty (20) weeks or longer are required to participate and contribute to the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Faculty and other appointed personnel may elect to participate in either the ASRS or an Optional Retirement Plan (ORP).

Retirement Deadlines

If Appointed Personnel employees do not submit an enrollment form for either the Arizona State Retirement Plan or an Optional Retirement Plan (ORP) within the thirty-one (31)-day enrollment period, will be permanently enrolled, by default, in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) for the course of their eligible employment with an ASRS participating employer.

Benefits Eligibility

Employees who are employed at a .50 FTE (20 hours per week) or more for a continuous period of six (6) months or more are benefits-eligible as determined by the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA).

UA Benefits

The University offers a number of University and State-sponsored insurance programs and plans including medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, retirement and tax sheltered annuity plans. Flexible spending accounts, a tuition reduction program and other fringe benefits and services are also available to benefits-eligible employees.

Benefits Enrollment Deadlines

If benefits enrollment forms are not received by Human Resources within thirty-one (31) days from your official date of hire, you will not be permitted to enroll in any of the state or university-sponsored group insurance programs until the next annual open enrollment period, at which point some restrictions may apply. You may only make enrollment changes during the annual open enrollment period or when you provide written notice of a qualified Life Event change within thirty-one (31) days of the occurrence of the event.
