Flexible Spending Account Dates & Deadlines

  • This plan works on the calendar year (January 1st, or new hire effective date, through December 31st).
  • Newly hired/newly eligible employees must enroll in this plan within 30 days of hire date (or benefit-eligibility date), or during the annual open enrollment period for the upcoming calendar year.
  • The newly hired/newly eligible employee's effective date is the first of the month after the date of enrollment.
  • Annual Open Enrollment is generally held in November each year. Open enrollment elections take effect January 1 of the following year.
  • Claims must be filed by March 31st for expenses incurred during the previous calendar year. Any dollars from the previous year not claimed by March 31st will be forfeited.
  • ALL employees in the plan MUST re-enroll each year in order to continue participation in the new calendar year. (All enrolled members will receive re-enrollment information from ASI, the plan administrator, each year by mail during the annual open enrollment period for this plan.)
