Benefits and Retirement Programs for Faculty and Appointed Personnel
Benefits Eligibility
Employees who are employed at a .50 FTE (20 hours per week) or more and whose employment is expected to continue six (6) months or more are benefits-eligible as determined by the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA).
Benefits Programs
The University offers a number of University and State-sponsored insurance programs and plans including medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, retirement and tax sheltered annuity plans, flexible spending accounts, a tuition reduction program and other fringe benefits and services.
Long Term Disability Program
For appointed employees enrolled in one of the optional retirement plans (ORP), the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System or the Federal Retirement System, the long-term disability plan is underwritten by Standard. Premiums are 100% employer-paid, the minimum monthly benefit is $100.00 and the maximum monthly benefit is $10,000.
Benefits Packet
If you are a benefits-eligible employee, your hiring department will request a Benefits Packet on your behalf from Human Resources by calling 621-3662. Your department may elect to mail your Benefits Packet to you if you are out-of-town or retain the packet until your arrival. The packet contains vital benefits and retirement information that will help you and your family make informed decisions.
Benefits Enrollment Instructions
Review the information provided in your benefits packet and the on-line Benefits Orientation program. Complete the benefits worksheet, and follow the instructions for on-line enrollment.
Enrollment Deadlines
If you do not complete your benefits enrollment within thirty-one (31) days from your official date of hire, you will not be permitted to enroll in any of the state or university-sponsored group insurance programs until the next annual open enrollment period, at which point some restrictions may apply.
Changing Benefits Elections
You may only make enrollment changes during the annual open enrollment period or when a written notice of a qualified Life Event change is provided within thirty-one (31) days of the occurrence of the event.
Retirement Eligibility
Employees who are employed at .50 FTE (20 hours per week) or more for a period of twenty (20) weeks or longer are required to participate and contribute to an eligible retirement program.
Retirement Programs
Retirement-eligible Faculty and Appointed Personnel Employees are eligible to elect enrollment in either the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or with one of the four Optional Retirement Plans (ORP) (TIAA/CREF, Fidelity, or VALIC) within thirty (30) days of their official date of hire.
Retirement Enrollment Instructions
Review the retirement information available in your benefits packet and the Human Resources benefits web page and select the retirement program of your choice. Complete the appropriate enrollment documents and forward to Human Resources, University Services Building Room 114, 888. N. Euclid, P.O Box 210158, 85721-0158. Forms must be received by the Human Resources Office within 31 days of your hire date.
Enrollment Deadlines
You must elect enrollment in either the Arizona State Retirement System or with one of the four Optional Retirement Plans (ORP) within thirty-one (31) days of your official date of hire. if you elect or default to membership in the Arizona State Retirement System, this election is irrevocable and you will remain in that plan for the course of your employment with the university or other participating ASRS employers. If you elect to enroll in one of the Optional Retirement Plans (ORP), you will then remain in the ORP for the course of your eligible employment.
Appointed employees who do not submit an enrollment form for either the ASRS or an Optional Retirement Plan within 31 days of their official hire date, will be permanently enrolled, by default, in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) for the course of their eligible employment with an ASRS participating employer.
