Increase in the Federal Minimum Wage
On May 25, 2007, President Bush signed legislation to increase the federal minimum wage which will be applied in three stages over the next twenty-six months. The University will implement these changes in the following pay periods:
- $5.85 per hour on July 24, 2007, effective pay period beginning July 16, 2007;
- $6.55 per hour on July 24, 2008, effective pay period beginning July 14, 2008; and
- $7.25 per hour on July 24, 2009, effective pay period beginning July 13, 2009.
Classified Staff Salary Schedule Changes
- The pay grade 03 minimum pay rate is being increased to $5.85. Pay grades 01 and 02 will be eliminated and titles in those grades will be moved to the 03 pay grade.
- The minimum pay rates for grades 04, 11, and 12 are being reduced slightly.
- Affected titles include Concessions Worker, Event Attendant, High School Student, and High School Student Food Service.
New Student Group minimum pay rates effective July 16, 2007 are:
- Student Group A - $5.85.
- Student Group B - $6.40.
- Student Group C - $7.00.
- Departments may adjust pay up to the new Student Group B/C minimums no later than July 1, 2008.
- The FY 08-09 and 09-10 Student Group Pay Ranges are also published.
The systemic changes will be administered centrally, and affected departments will receive turnaround PAF's in confirmation of the pay adjustment. It is suggested that departmental business offices review their staffing plans to assess any impact of the increased cost on department operations.
