Political or Other Employment Leave - Appointed Personnel
Definition
- The purpose of this leave is to allow an employee time off when campaigning for political office, being elected to political office or assuming other significant non-University duty.
Eligibility
- Regular benefits eligible appointed personnel.
Procedure
- Employee submits a request letter to department head, that includes the reason for the request and the leave schedule.
- Department head forwards their recommendations through the appropriate dean or vice President.
- Dean or vice president forwards recommendation to the UA President's office for written approval. The President's response is returned to the department.
- If approved, the department forwards the leave paperwork to the Leave Management team at Human Resources for benefit tracking purposes.
What Happens to your Benefits?
- You may continue your health benefits for six months by paying both the employer and employee cost of any such benefits.
- Following the leave start date, you will receive in the mail a packet from the Leave Management team of the Human Resources including:
- The form to waive, change or continue the existing benefits
- The bill with the itemized employee benefit cost as well as payment schedule
- Other helpful information
- Continuation of coverage after six months is available through the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA).
