Military Leave - Classified Staff
Definition
Military leave is a leave with pay for active duty or active duty training for a period not to exceed thirty working days in any two consecutive calendar years.
Eligibility
- Employees are members of military reserve units or the Arizona National Guard; and,
- Are in possession of active duty orders.
Procedure
- Employee requests the Military Leave of Absence in advance from his/her supervisor.
- A copy of active duty orders accompanies the request.
What Happens to Your Benefits?
- This leave has no impact on the employee's benefits.

Q: What year is used to calculate the thirty days of military pay?
A: Military pay calculations are based on a calendar year, January to December.
Q: How do I report the time on my time sheet?
A: "M" is the payroll earning code to use during the allotted thirty days of military pay.
Q: Am I eligible to use vacation time after I exhaust the thirty days of paid military time?
A: Yes. After the thirty days allotted time for military pay has been exhausted, you may then elect to use your vacation time.
Q: What if I use all of my thirty days of allotted military paid time during one year?
A: If the thirty days of paid time is used in one year, then you will not be eligible to receive military pay the following year.
