Faculty Development and Advancement

Annual performance Review

The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) requires all faculty to be formally evaluated on their performance once every twelve months. The University of Arizona Handbook for Appointed Personnel (UHAP) sets forth guidelines for the annual review process for faculty, professional personnel and administrators.

Author Support

The Provost's author support fund seeks to facilitate and further the publication of outstanding scholarly book-length manuscripts or other creative work by helping the author to defray the cost of items such as subvention required by the publisher, or special production charges associated with permissions, figures and photographs, indexing, etc.

Continuing Status and Promotion Process

Continuing status requires excellent performance and the promise of continued excellence. Decisions on continuing status shall be based on written criteria developed within each department or other administrative unit with participation of appropriate professional personnel and approved by the dean or director and the Provost.

Promotion and Tenure Process

Promotion and tenure requires excellent performance and the promise of continued excellence in teaching, research and service. Within established guidelines, promotion and tenure criteria are developed by the faculty members and department head in each department and approved by and filed with the dean and Provost. Tenure-eligible faculty members are expected to familiarize themselves with the promotion and tenure criteria applicable to their departments. An individual who holds a tenured appointment is assured that the President shall offer an appointment to that individual for each succeeding fiscal or academic year until retirement, resignation, dismissal for just cause, or termination for budgetary reasons or for educational policy change.

PEEL Grant

The Peel grant provides professional development activities for faculty and administrators at the University to improve their ability to provide a quality post-secondary education for students with disabilities. The project represents a collaborative partnership of the academic and student support resources and expertise of the University Teaching Center, the Disability Resource Center (DRC), the Strategic Alternative Learning Techniques Center (S.A.L.T. Center for Learning Disabilities), and Assessment and Enrollment Research. Together, they work with organizations of disabled students, university departments, and representatives of faculty and administrative units to ensure cohesive, effective design and delivery of disability instruction.

Sabbatical Request Process

Sabbatical leaves are to be granted to further any of the following objectives: research and publication, teaching improvement, intensive public service clearly related to the applicant's expertise, and integration and interpretation of existing knowledge into larger interdisciplinary frameworks.

Qualified Tuition Reduction Program

The Arizona Board of regents provides a Qualified Tuition Reduction (QTR) program that enables eligible employees and their spouses and dependents to enroll in courses of study at reduced registration fees. The QTR is reciprocal among the three state universities and may be applied to regular semesters or summer sessions.
