Purpose of Classification:
|This classification coordinates the day to day operations of an equipment maintenance operation.|
|This the second in a series of two classifications. It is distinguished from the Equipment Mechanic by its lead responsibilities. Working conditions - restricted movement, dirty environment, intense noise, lifts or carries heavy objects.|
Example of Duties:
- Leads and coordinates the work of assigned staff.
- Assists supervisors in implementing changes to shop operations, policies and procedures.
- Prepares work orders, reports and project time charges.
- Monitors and requisitions supplies, equipment and tools.
- Overhauls small engines (1-6 cylinders) and repairs transmissions, clutches and hydraulic systems.
- Performs tune-ups, and repairs braking systems, steering systems, and ignition systems on equipment such as generators, mowers, snow blowers, street sweepers, golf carts, electric trucks, tugs, cranes and weed eaters.
- Performs preventive maintenance on grounds equipment including oil changes, lubrication, replacing worn parts, and sharpening blades. May perform minor maintenance on light trucks and cars.
- Repairs custodial equipment such as vacuums and burnishers.
- Operates diagnostic electronic equipment to check charging systems, blade tip speeds, braking systems and electronic ignition. Troubleshoots systems failures in starters, alternators and portable emergency generators.
- Performs arc and gas welding and fabricates unique turf equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of hand/power tools and engine diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge of and skill in the repair and maintenance of grounds equipment and small engines.
- Ability to provide work direction to others.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of grounds equipment and small engines, OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and /or education approved by Human Resources.
- Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver's license is required upon employment.
