Purpose of Classification: |
| Manages technical and engineering areas for AM/FM radio stations. Operates, schedules, repairs, installs and modifies technical radio and audio production and operating equipment. |
Distinguishing Characteristics: |
| This is a specialized classification and not part of a series. |
Example of Duties: |
- Approves technical quality of all radio broadcast programming.
- Manages the technical resources of the radio station.
- Participates in budget preparation and policy in regard to equipment needs and new technologies.
- Schedules production equipment facilities and personnel to maximize resource utilization.
- Repairs, maintains, modifies, designs and installs radio production equipment and equipment for radio broadcast studios.
- Determines equipment needs and resources available and recommends appropriate audio equipment for purchase by radio station.
- Determines what equipment is needed for radio production, such as appropriate microphone and mixers.
- Participates in radio remote productions and special events.
- Trains staff and students in use of radio production equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: |
- Knowledge of broadcasting rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of radio production services and techniques.
- Skill in repair of broadcasting equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications: |
- Associate's degree in Broadcasting or related field AND two years experience in the maintenance and operation of radio production equipment; OR,
- Four years experience in the maintenance and operation of radio production equipment; OR,
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
