Purpose of Classification: |
| Supervises all technical aspects of the telephone system including system maintenance, data and computer peripheral equipment. It is distinguished from the Telecommunications Systems Supervisor in that incumbents in the Senior level do not manage technical operations for the department but maintain a system and typically reports to the Telecommunications Services Supervisor. |

Example of Duties: |
- Supervises, monitors or coordinates the work of subordinates.
- Analyzes, through diagnostics, problem areas in telephone system and takes appropriate action to eliminate problems.
- Configures software and hardware on digital system to accommodate specific university requirements.
- Monitors and maintains technical aspects of operating a digital telephone system at a level acceptable to university standards for efficient communications.
- Provides system analyses for decisions on functions associated with software and hardware configurations of the telephone system.
- Surveys and inspects existing wire and cable equipment; assists in the design of wire and cable plant.
- Maintains facility records and supplies.
- Installs building wire and cable and telephone equipment (data and telephone units).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: |
- Knowledge of wiring and installation.
- Knowledge of digital telecommunications systems.
- Knowledge of computer systems.
- Knowledge of telecommunication software/hardware configurations.
- Knowledge of telecommunication data transmission.
- Skill in telephone system maintenance procedures.
- Skill in networking, trunking and routing.
- Ability to effectively communicate.

Minimum Qualifications: |
- Completion of a two year technical training program, system certification courses AND six years of telecommunications experience which includes one year maintaining digital software driven systems; OR,
- Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
