    (min/mid/max):
    $21,124/$26,040/$31,961
    FLSA:Non-exempt

    Purpose of Classification:
    Coordinates daily operations of telecommunication services provided to university and outside community. Operates centralized telephone switchboard and trains new operators.

    Distinguishing Characteristics:
    This is second in a series of three classifications and is distinguished from the third level in that duties are of lead versus supervisory nature and is required to perform less administrative functions. Operates with little supervision and acts as resource to other levels for problem resolution. Possesses thorough knowledge of applicable university policy, procedures and organization.

    Example of Duties:
    • Coordinates the activities of subordinates.
    • Operates telephone switchboard in order to answer incoming calls; determines intent of caller and makes appropriate connection.
    • Maintains telephone directories and event schedules via computerized database when notified of changes in order to access correct information and ensure operators have current information.
    • Reports telephone equipment failures by completing necessary paperwork and notifying appropriate telecommunications personnel.
    • Operates and maintains telephone system which disseminates informational messages to callers regarding specific topics; determines what information caller requires and plays appropriate tape; maintains tape inventory.
    • Acts as primary resource to other operators for problem resolution, complaints and emergencies.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of a centralized telephone system.
    • Knowledge of personal computer workstations and database update.
    • Skill in the operation of sophisticated telephone equipment.
    • Skill in leading/coordinating work of others.
    • Ability to effectively communicate.

      Minimum Qualifications:
      • Three years experience operating a large automated telephone switchboard; OR,
      • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
