  1. How is the UA Talent Network different from regular job postings?
The UA Talent Network job postings are general in nature and differ from regular job postings. There are generic postings for five different categories including Administrative / Professional, Computer & Technology, Research, Adjunct Teaching / Instruction, and Trades & Maintenance. You submit an application to become a member of an applicant pool and not for a specific job posting. At the time you apply there may not yet be a need for short-term work in the category of your interest.
  2. Who is eligible?
    (1) Non-exempt employees with less than 1.0 FTE* who are available to work up to a 1.0 FTE* and exempt employees available to work a maximum of 176 hours of supplemental compensation per fiscal year, (2) former employees with a minimum of one year of UA work experience at .49 FTE* or greater, and (3) UA retirees.
  3. How many UA Talent Network positions can I hold?
If you are a non-exempt employee, you are able to work up to 1.0 FTE* between all positions that you hold; and as long as the work schedules and job responsibilities of each do not interfere. For example, if you are a current, part-time employee at .5 FTE*, you could theoretically accept two temp pool positions at .25 FTE* each.

If you are an exempt employee, you can work up to a maximum of 176 hours of supplemental compensation per fiscal year.  Human Resources encourages current employees who wish to work for supplemental compensation to discuss this with his/her respective supervisor.
  4. For the purposes of the UA Talent Network, what is the definition of a short-term, temporary position?
UA Talent Network positions are intended to meet short-term staffing needs where previous UA work experience is required. The maximum length of these positions is 4 four (4) months and 29 days and incumbents are not eligible for University benefits.
  5. After I complete one assignment, can I apply again?
You will remain active in the applicant pool and do not have to re-apply.  Once you have accepted an offer for a UA Talent Network position, Human Resources will reset your account in the applicant pool after your hire paper work for this position is processed.

Please note that after completion of one assignment, you cannot be hired for another assignment in the same department unless there is a break of one month in-between assignments.

You only need to resubmit your application materials once the postings have been inactiaved and you are still interested when the postings are re-opened with a different job posting number.  The pool postings for each category will be activated twice a year and will remain active for five months at a time.  The University will stop accepting applications one month prior to the expiration of the pool.  Current applicants will need to reapply under a different job number if they want to continue to be considered for these postings.

  6. Are the UA Talent Network positions benefits or retirement eligible?
    No.
  7. How does the UA Talent Network work?
UA Talent Network job postings are listed at UA Career Track in five job categories including Administrative / Professional, Computer & Technology, Adjunct Teaching / Instruction, Research; and Trades & Maintenance. When a department identifies a staffing need in one of the five categories listed, a hiring department will review the active applications in the pool and select candidates for an interview. The positions will be posted twice during a year and kept active for five (5) months. The University will stop accepting applications one month prior to the expiration of a pool. Closing and re-activating the pool postings twice a year is essential to keep the information in this internal employment service current.  If you want to be included in the new applicant pool then you will need to re-apply under a different job number. You will need to submit an application form, and attach a resume and the skills inventory form. Please select the application form titled “UA Talent Network Application.”
The skills inventory is located here:

No. Acceptance of a temporary assignment does not affect your lay-off status.
  10. I am currently employed at The University of Arizona. How many hours can I work in addition to my current job?
If you are currently working in a non-exempt position, you cannot work more than 1.0 FTE* total (all positions combined). This is equivalent to 40 hours in a work week. If you are currently working in an exempt position you can work up to 176 hours per fiscal year in a supplemental compensation position that raises your FTE above 1.0 FTE*.  See Supplemental Compensation Policy #316.0 for further details.
  11. How will I know who is hiring for temporary staffing needs?
All departments have access to your information and may contact you when they have a temporary staffing business need.
  12. Once I complete a temporary assignment, are other departments still able to view my application materials for other potential opportunities?
Yes, other departments are still able to view your application materials.  You only need to resubmit your application materials in Career Track once the postings have been inactivated and you are still interested when the postings are re-opened with a different job posting number.
  13. Does Employment Policy #102.0 apply to the applicant pool?
Yes, the UA Talent Network positions are temporary ancillary classified staff positions. UA Talent Network employees must be terminated and removed from the payroll for a minimum of 30 calendar days between temporary UA Talent Network positions in the same classification in the same department.
  14. I haven't been contacted, what does this mean?
Opportunities for short-term assignments are subject to availability.  Applying to the pool does not guarantee employment or a call to interview. In order to present your professional information most effectively to hiring departments ensure that you
    (1) keep your information current and accurate (contact information, skills, employment history)
    (2) recheck information before resubmitting to each new pool posting.
