Benefits of the UA Talent Network
  • Immediate access to pool of qualified candidates with U of A work experience.
  • No need to post a job requisition and wait to receive application materials
  • Ability to screen applicants based on specific skills and abilities.
  • Ability to fill temporary staffing needs for five different employment categories
    (1) Administrative/Professional, (2) Computer/Technology, (3) Research, (4) Adjunct Teaching/Instruction, and (5) Trades and Maintenance.

Applicant Process Steps

  • In addition to completing a short on-line application and attaching a resume, applicants will complete an “Applicant Skills Inventory” form that details their skills and abilities.
  • The pool postings for each category will be activated twice a year and will remain active for five months at a time. After five months the postings will be closed for one month and reopened under a new job number.  If an applicant wants to continue to be considered for the UA Talent Network applicant pool, he/she will need to resubmit the application when the posting is reopened.

Department Process Steps

  • The five job postings for each job category are listed under a fictional department called “UA Talent Network” and all posting titles begin with “UA Talent Network” to simplify search functionality.

Note: If you are unable to access the department "UA Talent Network", please contact your Employment Advisor for assistance.

  • You can view UATN postings under your “Active” postings link.
  • You will have continuous access to all the applicants in the UA Talent network, even during the month between the closing of old postings and the re-opening of new postings.
  • You can also search for applicants by using the “Search UA Talent Network: Applicants’ Skills Inventories” link on the left-side navigation menu of Career Track.

All of the skills listed on the “UA Talent Network: Applicant Skills Inventory” are searchable keywords. The search will sort matches based on their relevancy to your keyword(s).
Please note that the search feature searches all five of the applicant pools and cannot be limited to one pool category.
If you are not sure what or how to search, here are some tips.

  • Fill out the skills inventory based on the desired skills of your ideal candidate and save it as a reference for a list of searchable keywords.
  • Search options include:
    • Exact Phrase - enclose the phrase in quotation marks.
      • Grant Preparation would be entered “Grant Preparation”
      • If quotation marks are not used, the system will search for grant and preparation separately.
    • Boosted Phrase – add the “^” symbol followed by a numerical boost factor.
      • If experience with FRS is more critical than PSOS, you would type PSOS “FRS”^3. Now, applicants with FRS experience will have more “relevancy” in your search and will appear at the top of your list.
    • Exclusive Search – “AND,” “OR,” “NOT.”
      • “AND” - is the default when entering two or more words into the search. “PSOS FRS” would be read by the search engine as “PSOS AND FRS.” The system will display applicants who have listed both PSOS and FRS as skills.
      • “OR” – “PSOS OR FRS” will return a list of applicants who have indicated either PSOS or FRS as a skill.
      • “NOT” – “PSOS NOT FRS” will return only applicants who have entered PSOS and will exclude applicants who have listed FRS as a skill.
      • Note: Exclusive search terms must be typed in all capitals letters - “AND,” “OR,” “NOT.”
    • Grouping Search – use parentheses to group search terms.
      • If you want someone who has experience with PSOS or FRS, but additionally has experience with SIS, you would search “(PSOS OR FRS) AND SIS.”

Please note that the “UA Talent Network: Applicant Skills Inventory” is exclusive to UATN pool postings and should not be requested as an attached document for any other posting. After reviewing the applicants’ résumés, applications, and skills inventories, you may contact applicants for interview. When you have extended a job offer to a candidate, forward the hiring paperwork to Human Resources for processing. The hiring process is the same as all other new hires and requires the same forms, signatures and  authorizations.

You do not need to update the applicant’s status in Career Track to “Offer Accepted – Initiate Background Check.” - Human Resources will manage this process.

Human Resources will determine if a background check is needed upon receipt of the hiring paperwork. A background check will be required on hires that have not had a UA background check in the past 12 months and have not been an active employee of the University.

If you have questions related to the UATN, please refer to our UATN FAQs and/or contact your HR Employment Advisor (main campus) or Jeffrey Lanuez (AHSC).
