Vacation is paid time off earned by eligible Regular Classified Staff for the purpose of rest and relaxation.
Eligibility
- Regular Classified Staff who are benefits eligible.
- Although probationary Regular Classified Staff employees accrue vacation benefits from date of hire, they are not eligible to use paid vacation benefits until they have successfully completed the six-month initial probationary period.
- Part-time and temporary employees are not eligible to earn or be paid for vacation benefits.
- Vacation accrual rate is based on the length of service:

- Eligible Regular Classified Staff employees earn vacation hours based on the number of paid hours (up to eighty) per pay period according to the appropriate accrual rate.
- The vacation accrual rate will change at the start of the third and fifth years of continuous service based on the (adjusted) hire date.
Procedure
- Employees request approval in advance from the supervisor for use of vacation time.
- Supervisors are responsible for approving and scheduling vacation of their employees prior to actual absences, and will accommodate employee requests to the extent that the workload and department requirements permit.
- The signature of the supervisor on the Employee Time Record constitutes approval of vacation.
- Vacation is not charged when official University holidays occur during a period of approved vacation.
- The number of paid vacation days available to an employee at any given time will be the number of vacation days carried forward from prior years plus the number of days earned during the current year, not to exceed one and one-half times the current annual allowance. Any hours over this balance will be lost.
- Eligible employees who resign or are discharged from the University are paid their accumulated vacation hours not to exceed the amount earned in one year.
What Happens to Your Benefits?
- This leave has no impact on your current benefits. Benefit premiums will continue to be deducted from your paycheck.
